Blogoversary Day #4: My First ARCs & Giveaway!

This question came up on Formspring a couple times and so I thought it would be a fun topic to talk about today :) My very first ARC!

The first ARC I received, that wasn't specifically requested from a publisher, was THE FUTURE OF US by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler which I won through LibraryThing. I remember when the package showed up on my door step and I screamed my head off because I was so excited! At that time, I didn't have an email address hooked up to my LibraryThing account so I actually didn't even know I won it! I even sent Kristi from The Story Siren an email asking her what I was supposed to do! It was such a cool moment.

The first ARC I received from a publisher through a request was INCARNATE by Jodi Meadows. If you know me at all, I was pining over that book for MONTHS on Twitter and on a whim I sent a review request to HarperCollins. I wasn't really expecting to get anything from them, but when INCARNATE and Everneath showed up on my door step I just about DIED. I was incredibly excited to get INCARNATE that I ran around my house screaming my head off and scaring the crap out of my dog. That ARC also opened the doors up to me for working with HarperCollins which has been amazing these past couple of months.

If anything, ARCs are an amazing privilege that bloggers earn through hard work and commitment, and receiving those prized possessions in the mail is like Christmas coming early :) So thank you to Penguin and HarperCollins for making my first ARC experiences so fantastic and rewarding!

  1. Awesome! I understand that feeling of uncontainable elation at getting something you had low expectations of. My first ARC was Grace Mercy. To this day when I open a book package my daughter expects me to start screaming and bouncing around the house with a super smile plastered on my face. I am so grateful for all the books I receive.

  4. Coincidentally, Clockwork Prince (this copy that you and I are giving away) was my first (and only) ARC from a publisher. However, I won it on Goodreads, so I don't think it really counts.

  5. What an awesome fist time ARC experience! I got my first unsolicited ARC 2wks ago, did the 'happy dance' without even knowing what the book was about, lol! I have yet to ask for one, but maybe later in the year when I'm more experienced... I love visiting your blog, you always have the best advice for us newbies, thank you so much!

  6. I know what you mean about receiving an ARC. I craved some books for months before I signed up for Netgalley with enough followers that they might send me something. Boom! I got "The Immortal Rules" by Julie Kagawa on my e-reader and then got the paper version a week later. I sort of did a happy dance, and I'm way past being a teenager.
